Following todays washout the CCC met this evening and in consultation with the teams have decided to reschedule the Intermediate Championship Final to tomorrow afternoon at 1:30pm in Cloone.  This situation is not ideal but both clubs wish to complete the championship with the winners having the chance to prepare for the Connacht Clubs game against Sligo opponents on Oct 19th.

The Junior A game will be rescheduled for a later date and the Minor and Senior games are still on the schedule subject to a pitch inspection tomorrow morning.  The minor throw-in is fixed for 1:15pm while the Senior is at 3:00pm.

Brief report on the semifinal:

St Marys had an impressive start to the Masonite Senior Championship semifinal with 3 unanswered points from Ray Mulvey, Daniel Lowe and Nicholas McWeeney before Fintan McGourty from Glencar Manor registered their first point. Three more points for Marys followed from Jimmy Guckian, Ray Mulvey and Gene Bohan. In the 13th minute Gary Hickey scored a free for Manor with Dominic Kelly following 1 minute later. St Marys replied with 2 points from Ray Mulvey and a Gene Bohan free while Glencar Manor squandered 3 chances wide of the posts. The half ended St Marys 0-08 to 0-03 in front on the score board and playing by far the best football. Glencar Manor had a lot of work to do and needed to start playing as a team.

The second half promised much but delivered little in the first 17 minutes, that was to change however towards the end. Glencar Manor made one substitutions in that period and it proved very important as Pat Gilmartin entered the fray and started to steady the ship at midfield. He also got into the action immediately as he scored the first point of the half. St Marys squandered several chances as they hit 6 wides in the opening quarter. Dominic Kelly was next to score for Manor and then the first sign of a come back as Gary Hickey got in for a fisted goal off a Dominic Kelly pass. DrawnÓgame and the place came to life. Marys hit another wide before Ray Mulvey scored a point on the 22nd minute from a free. Ronan McGoarty fisted Glencar Manor back into a drawnÓgame. Several St Marys substitutions followed Breain Farrell for N Commerton, Brian ODonnell for C Cuniffe. Meanwhile Brian McDonald brought Glencar Manor score to 1-07, they were now 1 point ahead of the county champions.

St Marys Breain Farrell managed to break through several tackles to plant the ball in the Manor net and Marys now moved 2 ahead. The noise from the stand was deafening as the game moved to injury time. Brian McDonald missed a vital chance for Manor but he made up for it in the 32nd minute with a point from a long range free. 1 point separated them. Then the killer blow as Gary Hickey registered his second goal and in the 3rd minute of injury time Manor went ahead again. This was the last score as 30 seconds later the game came to an end as Marys exited the championship.

Glencar Manorhamilton now have 1 week to prepare for the final against Bornacoola which is fixed for 3pm on Sunday next.

Nine out of fourteen fixtures were completed over a weekend that proved to be another washout  as only half of yesterdays games were played while the Senior semifinal was postponed due to an appeal.

The four Saturday evening games went ahead and in the Intermediate Championship Aughnasheelin booked their place in the Final after their close 2pt victory over Gortletteragh.  Dromahaire and Drumkeerin could not be seperated and must do it all over again next Saturday evening at 4pm in Páirc Seán.  Allen Gaels fought off relegation with a convincing win over Aughawillan who now face Intermediate championship football for 2009.

In what turned out to be the only game of the Senior championship this weekend Kiltubrid and Bornacoola met in the semifinal on Saturday evening and  the Bors pulled off a deserved 2 point victory on a scoreline of 1-10 to 3-02.  They were behind at half time 0-5 to Kiltubrids 3 goals  in what was an unusual half time score but they played the better brand of football in the second half and they grinded back Kiltubrids lead to go ahead in the 56th minute from an opportunist goal that was well taken.

On Sunday in Junior A  Mohill managed to get past Melvin Gaels by the slimiest of margins in the Quarterfinal replay.  In Junior B Cloone conceded to Kiltubrid as 3 other games fell victim to the wet weather.  Dromahaire defeated Aughnasheelin and Glencar/Manor pipped St Caillins in their respective group games.

Two of the four Junior C games were fulfilled as St Osnetts & Sean OHeslins recorded victories over Leitrim Gaels and Glenfarne/Kilty respectively.

Later in the afternoon the Intermediate relegation final between Aughavas and Ballinaglera was postponed as the persistent rain caused Páirc Seán to water log.

It was a very busy weekend in football circles in Leitrim as 15 competitive games were played and many surprises unfolded as championship dreams and relegation nightmares became clearer.

In  the blue ribbon event, the Senior championship, 3 teams made it to the semifinals: Glencar/Manorhamilton, Kiltubrid and Bornacoola.  Reigning champions St. Marys did not have it all their own way on Saturday evening against Sean OHeslins and both teams have it all to do again in the replay next weekend.

Staying with the Senior section the relegation battle worsened for Allen Gaels and Aughawillan as they fell to Drumreilly and Mohill respectively.

In the Intermediate championship Gortletteragh, Drumkeerin, Aughnasheelin and Dromahaire all booked their places into the semi-finals in 2 weeks time.  While Ballinaglera know that the have it all to do to avoid relegation as they await the outcome of this weekends relegation semifinal between Annaduff and Aughavas.

The Junior A group stages are finished as the quarter final places were decided and its Bornacoola v Gortletteragh,  Mohill v Melvin Gaels, Eslin v Leitrim Gaels, St Marys v Allen Gaels.  The relegation semi-final pairings are also known as Aughavas meet Sean O Heslins and Carrigallen play Drumkeerin.

There were no Junior B games last weekend but 4 round 2 games are scheduled for this Saturday and Sunday.

The Junior C draw was made at the CCC meeting last night and the fixtures will be available on the website shortly.  This competition commences on Saturday evening.

Two Intermediate games came a cropper last weekend due to the bad weather while group 1 finished all their games.  Hopefully on Sunday evening all places will be decided in the quarters and relegation will be facing some teams as we look at the status of the groups:

Group 1

Status:  This group is complete as Dromahaire are through to the quarters and in last weekends game Aughnasheelin decided the second place with a convincing win over Annaduff who now head for the relegation playoffs.

Group 2

Final Game: Aughavas v St Marys

Status:  This group is very close, St. Marys can top the group this weekend but if Aughavas win then itll be down to score difference to decide the placings.  Glencar/Manor must sit back and await the result although their +4 score difference will probably stand to them.

Group 3

Final Game:  Drumkeeran v Ballinaglera   (rescheduled)

Status:  Cloone are in the quarters and Drumkeerin are nearly there in that they need a draw or better to go through.  Ballinaglera on the other hand need to win outright as they need all the points to better Drumkeerins 1 point.

Group 4

Final Game:  Gortletteragh v Fenagh St. Caillins   (rescheduled)

Status:  This group is almost decided upon as Gortletteragh and Fenagh are guaranteed a place what remains to be seen is in which order they come out of the group.  A draw and Gortletteragh will go through as table toppers due to score difference.  Glenfarne/ Kiltyclougher await the relegation playoff.

Junior A got up and running last weekend and Bornacoola, Eslin , Mohill and Melvin Gaels got off to a perfect start.  One game inÓgroup 1, Bornacoola v Leitrim Gaels, is scheduled for tomorrow evening (Saturday) at 7pm and the three remaining games are scheduled for Sunday. The picture will become clearer on the group stages Sunday evening at 8:30pm.

Junior B opens this weekend and the competition is divided into two groups with 5 teams inÓgroup 1 and 4 in the 2nd group.

Group 1 –
Annaduff
Aughawillan
Aughnasheelin
St Marys
Dromahaire

Group 2 –
Cloone
Fenagh St Caillins
Glencar/Manorhamilton

Seven out of eight have guaranteed their place in the quarter-finals. The last round of the group stages is complete bar one last game inÓgroup 2 between Kiltubrid and Allen Gaels which will decide the 2nd position in the group and more importantly the 8th place in the quarters. The score difference criteria could apply to this game to decide the placings.

Group 1

Status:
Annaduff got to the Quarters on full points. Carrigallen are in 2nd placing, Annaduff must await the outcome of Allen Gaels v Kiltubrid. Carrigallen will face Group 1 winners Glencar Manorhamilton in two weeks time.
Drumreilly in relegation semifinal with Allen Gaels or Kiltubrid

Group 2

Final Game:  Allen Gaels v Kiltubrid

Status:
Glencar Manorhamilton are through on full points and meet Carrigallen who are the Group 1 runner up. In teh postponed game we have a local derby as both teams fight for the last place. Kiltubrid have the better score difference so a draw is the minimum result needed. Allen Gaels know that a draw wont be enough and they no doubt will draw inspiration from the game in Cloone as they will look to emulate Sean OHeslins. It will be a frustrating week for both camps as they try to get themselves up for the game after having to lay down tools last Saturday afternoon.

Group 3

Status:
Melvin Gaels are in the Quarter finals with 3 points and meet Bornacoola. score difference didnt apply in this group as Sean OHeslins needed full points while a draw was the minimum for Mohill. Sean OHeslins were fully deserving of their win in a game that saw them put it up to Mohill from the start and surprisingly Mohill were slow to respond. The Mohill goal came in the last few minutes of the game but OHeslins held out. Sean OHeslins to meet Group 4 winners St Marys while Mohill to face Aughawillan in the relegation semifinal.

Group 4

Status:
St. Marys win means that they have full points and will play Sean O Heslins in the quarters. St Marys win also decided the fate of Borncoola as the defeat of Aughawillan ensured their place in the quarters against Group 3 winners Melvin Gaels. Aughawillan will face Mohill in the relegation semifinal.

Summary:

Facing Relegation semifinal –
Drumreilly v Allen Gaels or Kiltubrid
Mohill v Aughawillan.

Quarters –
Group 1 Winners – Annaduff
v Grp 2 Runners Up – Kiltubrid or Allen Gaels

Group 2 Winners – Glencar / Manorhamilton
v Grp 1 Runners Up – Carrigallen

Group 3 Winners – Melvin Gaels
v Grp 4 Runners Up – Bornacoola

Group 4 Winners – St Marys
v Grp 3 Runners Up – Sean O Heslins
