Feile Peil na nOg 2018 – on Friday afternoon Fenagh St Caillins u14 team departed by bus headed for Belfast to be the 5th team to represent the club and the county at Feile Peil na nOg. It was a trip into the unknown for the team and mentors but soon after their arrival to the fantastic Bredagh Gaa facilities in the heart of Belfast they got into their stride and despite having to compete at 15 a side with only 16 players they had fantastic wins over the host club and then the Scotland team. After this, they travelled to the home of their host team for the weekend, St Colman’s Gac, Drumaness, Co Down. From their arrival until they departed Drumaness at midday Sunday every player, the mentors and the travelling entourage of parents, family, and friends were treated beyond any expectations by the most generous of hosts. Food, drinks and even transport for late night revellers was laid on by the host club throughout the weekend. Back to matters on the field and on Saturday morning the Fenagh boys had to play their hosts St Colman’s to decide who would compete in the cup or shield quarter-final later in the day. Once again the Fenagh lads played some magnificent football and won to ensure qualification for the cup quarter-final as group winners. Granard/Ballymore from Longford were the quarter final opponents but this encounter proved too much for the lads who again gave it their all but lost out to a very talented Granard/Ballymore team who would go on to win out the division in Sunday’s final. Later on Saturday evening, the team took part in the Feile parade through the streets of the picturesque town of Newcastle, Co Down. All the lads represented the club impeccably during the trip and made new friends and had an experience that they will hopefully remember for a lifetime. Sincerest thanks to the members of St Colman’s Drumaness GAA Club for their work in making the weekend a memorable one for everyone who travelled.
