Under 21 Final – Fenagh Gortletteragh took the field for the fourth year in a row in the Under 21 A Final hoping to cap the year off with a trophy. Old rivals St Manchan’s were the opposition and thanks to a fisted goal by Keith Beirne they held sway at halftime. The lads threatened to mount their trademark comeback when Riordan O’Rourke goaled late on but despite some last-gasp efforts, Manachan’s held on for a 1-11 to 1-08 win and disappointment for our lads. Having lost the last three finals in the grade was a blow but these lads have shown remarkable grit and have a never say die attitude that was evident in Pairc Seán last weekend. They are a credit to their families and their clubs and no doubt they will be back again as they continue their careers with club and county. Well done to the entire panel for their efforts and to their mentors Tom, Bobby, Sean and Paul.

Jordan Tighe – We wish one of our greatest young supporters Jordan Tighe a speedy recovery to full health following a few weeks in Crumlin Children’s Hospital. Jordan was disappointed to miss the Under 21 final but the team did not disappoint him as he kept in touch on Twitter.
Under 21 Champions – Congratulations to St Manchan’s on winning the last Under 21 final for the foreseeable future. Both teams played a very sporting game that was helped enormously by great refereeing from Eamonn O Grady. Keith Keegan was well deserving as man-of-the-match, but every man from both sides gave it their all and the future of Leitrim football looks good at this level. We thank the players of Cloone and Eslin who over the last few years have given their all in every age group.
Stephen Flynn – Congratulations to Stephen Flynn who has been elected to Vice Chairman of the County Board.

Congratulations Enda – We would like to extend our heartiest congratulation to our club member Enda Tiernan on being elected to the position of Leitrim representative on GAA’s Ard Comhairle. Enda a former Cathaoirleach of Cloone GAA and present IT Officer, oversaw many huge developments in the club during his seven years as chairman. Enda was chairman of the club when Cloone GAA won the prestigious A.I.B. ‘Club of the Year Award’ in 2004 and few present will ever forget the presentation ceremony in Croke Park as being a very proud day for the club. Enda as chairman led a team of officials who implemented many huge developments in the club among them the provision of the magnificent lighting system in the park, and the club being the first club and Leitrim being the first County to host a National League game under lights, when Leitrim took on London in the Cloone GAA grounds. Enda has served Leitrim GAA as Connacht Council delegate for the last three years and has been most helpful to many clubs in the county with their clubs structural developments, and has been involved in many developments within the Connacht Council. No doubt Enda will be a very efficient representative for Leitrim on Central Council and we wish him the very best of luck in his new role as he follows in the footsteps of his former near neighbour the late Leo McAlinden who served as Leitrim representative on Central Council for twenty-five years.

HISTORY – Back to a little bit of history again and this time we visit a league game in the Grange when Cloone took on Gortletteragh on March 5th, 1972. Cloone had difficulty fielding a team and were fined £5 for being fifteen minutes late. The stats would indicate that Cloone played well but were beaten 1 06 to 0 6 pts. The team lined out as follows, Paddy Kelly R.I.P., Louis Moran, Gerry Moran, Sean Smith, Kevin Lennon, Peadar Moran, T.P.Lennon R.I.P. Jim McCabe, Damian Brennan, Kieran Brennan, Tommy Derwin R.I.P. Timmy Beirne, Kevin Moran Gerry McGovern, Gerry Tiernan, R.I.P. Sub used Pat Beirne.

Next game in the league of that year was a rousing game against near-neighbours Aughavas played in the Grange on Sunday, March 19th. Cloone had difficulty fielding a team but did manage to get a team on the Pitch four minutes late. Cloone led at the interval by 1 02 to 0 2. On the resumption, Aughavas introduced two substitutes, i.e. the late Frank Reynolds R.I.P. and the late Mickey McGirl R.I.P. and this had a profound bearing on the game as immediately Aughavas scored two goals and a point. Cloone rallied back scored a goal and a point to be followed by an Aughavas point and the stroke of full time scored the levelling point to bring the game to draw 2 04 each. Cloone lined as follows, Paddy Kelly R.I.P., Pat Beirne Gerry Moran, Sean Smith, Louis Moran, Peadar Moran, Jim Harte, Damian Brennan, Jim McCabe, ( 01) Kieran Brennan, (1 0) Timmy Beirne (1 01) Gavin McAlinden, Kevin Moran, Gerry McGovern, ( 01 ) Gerry Tiernan R.I.P. Sub used T.P.Lennon. R.I.P. (01)
