Ladies Intermediate Championship – The Bornacoola/St Mary’s ladies were back in action on Sunday last in Ballinaglera as they took on Drumkeerin in their first Intermediate Championship group game and it was winning start for the girls as they accounted for the opposition on a 5-15 to 1-9 scoreline after an entertaining hour’s football played in testing conditions as the temperature rose yet again. The girls were out of the blocks early and had three goals on the board during the first quarter which gave them a winning platform allied to very resolute defending which kept the raiding opposition at bay. Drumkeerin’s cause was not aided by an unfortunate knee injury to influential midfielder Bridget Gallagher which forced an early exit from the game and we wish her the very best in her recovery. The girls held a 4-9 to 0-6 interval lead and while the second half was very evenly contested, our ladies saw the game out to take the spoils in impressive fashion. Their next match in the group will be on the bank holiday weekend as they take on Fenagh with matches against St Francis and Mohill to follow. In action on Sunday last were: Caroline Guckian, Cora McCauley, Kathy Butler, Joanne McGushin, Enya Guckian, Lorraine Guckian, Emily Reynolds, Alison McKeon, Kasey Bruen (1-1), Sara Crowe (0-3), Aisling Leahy (2-1), Hannah Reynolds, Sarah Reynolds (1-1), Kelly Howard (1-6), Lisa Guckian (0-1), Hannah Farrell (0-2), Isabelle Chandler, Ellen Woods and Maeve Cryan.

Barna Recycling U13’s – St Joseph’s U13s played Mohill on Thursday evening in the second round of the championship. It was a disappointing outing for the St Joseph’s lads against a talented Mohill side. The scoreline at halftime read Mohill 4-4 St Josephs 2-2. A goal after the break for St Josephs narrowed the deficit and ìt looked like we might be able to close the gap but a brilliant save from the Mohill goalie to deny us another goal was the turning point as Mohill went on to dominate the remainder of the match-winning out on a final score of Mohill 7-11 St Josephs 3-2. Lots of room for improvement for St Joseph’s before they take on their next opponents which will be Leitrim Gaels.

Newtowngore Engineering U17’s – Our U17’s were away to Sean O’Heslin’s on Monday last. After a blistering start, in which we led by 3-01 to 0-01, a much fitter Ballinamore team worked their way back into the game and ran out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 4-16 to 3-04. Scorers for Mohill were J Reynolds 1-3, R Kennedy 0-3, D Flynn 0-3, R Gordon 0-1, S Quinn 0-1. Swan Bar Div 4 league Champions – The club made history last Sunday after an extra time thriller that left spectators on the edge of their seat right till the end. Three late scores in extra time secured a 1.13 to 1.10 victory over Sean O Heslins. Damien McGourty and Colm Maguire were reeling in the years as they fired over 2 of those 3 scores with young Niall Mc Gourty putting over another fine effort to ensure the cup was going back to Ballinaglera. It was a fantastic team performance which produced some excellent fielding from Anton McGourty and Pauric Clarke around the middle. Hugh Gilmartin commanded the goal line superbly and a tight defence was marshalled by Barry Gilmartin and the Crawford brothers, John and Ryan, with James Mc Dowell and Patrick Mc Grail putting in some excellent tackles and running the wings all day. Captain fantastic Rory Mc Partland was the anchor at centre back. Up front the experienced Noel Mc Morrow worked tirelessly, with Ciaran Cornyn and Oisin McGourty providing excellent link up play and Gerard Clarke, Maguire and Mc Gourty chipping in with some vital scores. Micheal Crawford joined his two brothers on the field and made an immediate impact off the bench drawing important frees at a crucial stage. Well done to the whole panel, it was great to see the numbers on the subs bench. Congratulations to the team and hard working management of John Mulvey, Enda Gilraine and Barry Mc Gourty.
