Leitrim Scór Finals

The Leitrim County Finals of Scór Sinsear took place Saturday night in the Bee Park Centre in Manorhamilton. There was a big crowd present and a wonderful night?s entertainment on stage.

The big winners on the night were the Aughnasheelin and Bornacoola clubs who won three titles each. The other two winners were Glencar/Manorhamilton and Leitrim Gaels.

The winners in Figure Dance were Glencar/Manorhamilton

In Solo Singing, Ann Whitne y from Leitrim Gaels was the winner. This was a historic win as it was Leitrim Gaels first ever county title in Scór at any level.

Instrumental Music was won by Aughnasheelin. This was Aughnasheelin?s first time ever to win the Music title.

Recitation: The winner was Bornacoola?s Aidan Dockery

Aughnasheelin won the Ballad Group title for the seventh successive year. Indeed Aughnasheelin have reached the All Ireland Final for the last three years.

In Trath na gCeist, Bornacoola took the title with a narrow win over neighbours Annaduff.

Aughnasheelin won their third title of the night in Novelty Act. It is thirty years since Aughnasheelin last won a Novelty Act title in Leitrim.

Finally the Rince Seit went to Bornacoola. Bornacoola were famous for their set dancers in the 1980s and 1990s so it was wonderful to see them back winning a county title again.

Club na Bliana: The club of the year award went to the Bornacoola club who were represented in seven of the eight events in the County Final.

The Connacht Finals are in Tubbercurry on Sunday 26 March.

13-Mar-06 by Sean O Suilleabhain, Leitrim Scor

The recent bad weather has taken its toll as its possible that only 3 games out of 11 club games will proceed this weekend.

As of this morning (Sunday) only 1 league game will go ahead between Bornacoola and Sean O Heslins and Ballinaglera and Annaduff

This will put added pressure on the GAC as they have to schedule in the region of 465 fixtures for Clubs in 2007 of which approximately 366 are league games.

The County Senior game against Longford will definately go ahead after a pitch inspection earlier this morning.

Leitrim Ladies Notes

Club Leagues:
Next Saturday will see the start of action for the clubs when defending champions Aughawillan travel to Cloone for a 4.00pm start in Division 1. All other clubs will resume action the following weekend.

Club Championship:
Due to the promotion of Aughawillan to Senior Club status for the Connacht Championship, the championship structure within the county has had to be revised. The remaining six clubs at Senior level last year will now play for an Intermediate title To facilitate Aughawillan in a Championship within the county, the winners will of the Intermediate title will play Aughawillan in the Senior Final. The League status of the clubs remains unchanged.

National Congress:
The 31st Annual congress was held at the weekend in Mullingar with many interesting topics on the agenda for debate. In a wide ranging report to Congress, CEO Helen O?Rourke outlined the progress of the association in general over the past year. The importance of the implementation of the Code of Ethics and Good practice throughout the association was highlighted as was the continued provision of training for coaches. A level 1 coaching courses specifically aimed at ladies football will be rolled out in 2006 in addition to the provision of 16 new tutors to implement the courses. The Association?s Strategic Plan for the next 3 years was also launched at the weekend with a key priority to look at club and county competition programmes. While there were no significant changes to playing rules, the concern over the amount of football being played by younger county players was addressed and from 2007 players will not be allowed to play more that one age group above their current grade and players at under 16 level will not be allowed to play for Junior or Senior County teams. This will apply to inter county competitions only.

Schools Final:
The Connacht Junior Final due to be played on Friday last in Tuam between Carrick CS and Tuam was postponed due to a frozen pitch. This was very disappointing news for the Carrick team who had made the journey for the game. Details of the refixture are not available at the time of going to press but we wish the best of luck to Carrick in the final.

National League:
Leitrim have a three week break until their final league game against Offaly on 2nd April. This game will be the first of a hectic schedule for the county team in April. The following Saturday 8th April, will see the team commence the Connacht championship with a first round game against Roscommon. On 16th of April Leitrim will face Kilkenny of Antrim in the National League Quarter final. A victory here will involve a semi final appearance the following weekend and on 30th April the team will play their second Connacht Championship game against defending champions Sligo.

Minor Training:
Due to the inclement weather last weekend, county trainging had to be cancelled. Training is scheduled again for next Saturday morning at 11.00 am in Kiltubrid and all players are requested to attend.

Scór 2006:
A number of our players around the county will be involved in the County Final next Saturday evening in Manorhamilton. Best of luck to all concerned.

Scol?ireachta? Gaeltachta

There were a large number of applicants for the Leitrim Co. Board GAA Gaeltacht Scholarships and a very high standard among the youngsters who attended for interview. Indeed if there were twice as many scholarships there would have been enough worthy candidates.

The successful candidates were:

Stiof?n Mac Tadhg. Droim M?r, B?al an ?tha M?ir

Cl?r Kilcrann, Corlaskagh, Coill na gCros, Cora Droma R?isc

Maeve Canning, Mullaghbrack, Maothail

Caoimh?n ? Riag?in, Sr?idbhaile Liatroma, Cora Droma R?isc

Bu?ochas do na buachaill? agus na cail?n? go l?ir a chuir isteach ar na scol?ireachta? agus comhghairdeas do na Buaiteoir?.

Seachtain na Gaeilge Quiz

Leitrim representatives, Bornacoola, won the Connacht Finals of the Seachtain na Gaeilge Quiz which was held in Roscommon last Wednesday. They now go on to the All Ireland Finals, which will be held in Croke Park on St Patrick?s Day.

Two teams from each province qualify for the All Ireland finals but this is the first time in the three-year period since the quiz started that a Leitrim team got out of Connacht.

The Bornacoola team that won the Connacht Final was made up of Aidan Dockery, Liam Rabbitte, Evelyn Reynolds and Marie Therese Dockery. Two of the team that won the Leitrim final, Cyril Staunton and Padraig Duffy, were not available for the Connacht Final and were replaced by Aidan Dockery and Evelyn Reynolds. Indeed Bornacoola will have difficulty in picking their team for the All Ireland Finals.

Comhghairdeas do Bharr na Cuile ar a mbua agus go n-?ir? leo i gCraobh na h?ireann ar L? ?L? P?draig
