Dublin – Aughawillan Sponsored Cycle – Last Saturday, our 20 cyclists plus support team travelled from Castleknock to Aughawillan, 150km in total to raise funds to develop and upgrade the playing surface of the main pitch. This 8.5 hour journey took them through Dunshaughlin, Navan, Kells, Virginia, Cavan, Killeshandra, Newtowngore and Ballinamore, before arriving back to Aughawillan GAA club, where they were greeted by a large crowd of family, friends & supporters to congratulate them. A massive thank you to all those who were at the field to welcome the cyclists back to Aughawillan, the supporters who came out along the way to encourage the cyclists and everyone who sent them off in style in Castleknock that morning. A mention also to the support team who travelled with the cyclists – Gene and Eugene Maguire who led the crew along the way, the medic Marie Quinn, the mechanic Christy Creamer and Ciaran McTague who was also on hand, Charlie, AnnaMay and Niamh Kelly who were at the stops along the route to provide snacks and water for the cyclists and Donal Quinn & Gallogy Catering who were at Aughawillan pitch to provide refreshments after the cycle. The cyclists along with family & friends gathered in Jackies’ bar later that evening to celebrate their achievement and have a few well-earned refreshments!

New York – Leitrim begin the 2018 Championship this weekend in Gaelic Park, New York. There’s a weekend of activities for all making the trip, with the Senior game taking place on Sunday May 6th at 7.15pm (2.15GMT) & the Leitrim/Longford Maters will play a New York Selection on Saturday 5th at 7.30pm.
A number of our cyclists will be in New York for Leitrim’s opening Championship game and no doubt will be seeking the support of the Aughawillan and Leitrim Diaspora in New York. Best of Luck to all involved in both games, if you’re in the Big Apple send us in your pictures!

Dublin – Aughawillan Sponsored Cycle – There’s just 10 days to go to May 12th and the 150km cycle from Castleknock to Aughawillan. A big welcome to Eilis Quinn, Mick Quinn (Sean O’Heslins) and Padraig Holohan (Drumrielly) who are participating in a support role to our cycling team.

In the final weekend before the cycle, there are still some fundraising efforts. On bank holiday Monday, Noel Gilheany is hosting a Pizza evening at his house in Swanlinbar from 3pm. Some of our cycling team will be participating in the Smuggler’s Ring of Cuilcagh cycle on Sunday April 22nd, starting from Blake’s Derrylin at 9am. For anyone wishing to join in, entry fee is €20 and is in aid of Autism N.I.

There has been a number of fundraising events over the past two weeks. The proceeds from the Whist Drive on April 10th was donated to the Dublin-Leitrim Cycle. We’d like to thank all those who came along on the night, as well as those who brought refreshments on the night & donated spot prizes- Pat Flanagan, Pat Stringer, Morgan Quinn and Christy & Bridie McGovern. Thanks, in particular to Cathal McBrien, the kitchen staff – Michelle Dolan, AnnaMay Kelly & Rachel Dolan and to the parish committee for their support.

On April 14th the Aughawillan Diaspora & Friends night out was held in Dublin and was well attended and enjoyed by all present. Congratulations to Castleknock who had a Championship win earlier in the evening and their mentors who were present on the night.

Leitrim GAA Strategic Plan – Coiste Chontae Liatroma CLG is in the process of producing a Strategic Development Plan for the next three years.

As part of the consultation process, adult members of the GAA in Leitrim are being asked for their views under a number of headings. Allianz Leagues 2018 – It was a mixed weekend for the Leitrim county teams, with the hurlers losing the Division 3B final to Lancashire 1-25 to 1-18, and the footballers having a comprehensive win over Wicklow 2-15 to 10 points.

Referees Wanted – In order for the GAA and its games to survive, we need to recruit new referees. A special effort is been made to recruit new referees, so if you are interested or know of anybody interested please contact a member of the executive.
