Senior Championship – Our Senior Championship campaign got off to a disappointing start on Friday night last in Cloone when Allen Gaels were decisive winners in a one-sided first-round clash. The Gaels were very quick out of the traps and two goals inside the first 15 minutes, one from the penalty spot, ensured the Bors were on the back foot from early in the game and trailed by 7 points by the time Philip Howard was black carded in the 20th minute. Our best spell of the game was probably between then and halftime as the Bors settled a little, but nonetheless, it was the Drumshanbo men who held a 2-5 to 0-4 interval lead. The Bors needed a good start to the second half, but it was the Gaels who got one and their third goal – also from the penalty spot – put the game beyond any doubt. A poor night got even worse when Brian Duffy was stretchered from the field after an accidental collision towards the end of the game; thankfully the tigerish Brian has since made a full recovery. A Brian Conroy goal at the death was poor consolation for a disappointing Bornacoola performance as Allen Gaels coasted to their 3-14 to 1-7 victory. This Saturday we face Aughnasheelin in Cloone at 5.30pm. Team on Friday was Danny Farrell, David Mulligan, Damien Mc Guinness, Brian Duffy, Allan Croghan, Jason Conroy, Liam Mulligan, Gary Mc Closkey, Colm Farrell, Cian Mallon (0-1), Sean Mc Keon (0-1), Ollie Vaughan, Philip Howard, Damian Moran (0-4), Ronan Mulligan (0-1). Subs used Conor Mc Cauley, Anthony Mulligan, Brian Conroy (1-0), Mervyn Howard, Noel Mc Enroe

U13’s – St Joseph’s U13s played a strong Leitrim  Gaels team in Aughavas on Thursday evening. Despite playing well in patches St Josephs trailed at half-time on a scoreline of Leitrim Gaels 4-04 St Josephs 1-04. A poor start to the second half by St Josephs saw Leitrim Gaels extend their lead further and in the end they were full value for the win on a final scoreline of Leitrim Gaels 6-12 St Josephs 1-10. Well done to Leitrim Gaels and hard luck to the St Josephs lads who showed glimpses of what they are capable of but lacked consistency over the course of the game.

U17’s – Hard luck to our u17’s who put up a spirited performance against an impressive St. Mary’s team last Monday evening in Aughavas. Final score: St. Joseph’s 4-04 St. Mary’s 6-09. Our next match is a home game against Fenagh at 7:30pm on Monday next in Carrigallen.

Intermediate Championship – The second 17 were just not strong enough for Annaduff on Sunday and they were well behind in the end. All the players gave of their best, but first teams are always difficult to beat. Next Sunday they meet fellow parishioners Eslin in Fenagh at 12. The friendly rivalry between both sides should guarantee an entertaining hours football.

Junior Championship – The junior team suffered the same fate as the intermediate side and also at the hands of Annaduff. Some greats of the past showed off their skills in this group and hopefully they will be around for the next few games.

Underage – Both Under 17s and Under 13s were also beaten by Annaduff last week. The Under 17s played Dromahair on Monday last but no result going to press.

Under 13 – Annaduff won by two points on Thursday last and were worthy winners, but there were no losers in this brilliant game, that had great footballing skills on show from both teams. Our panel and scorers was, L Bohan, T Mayock, C Donohue, A Mulligan, A McGuinness, L Flynn,C Walpole, M Tiernan, E Duignan, J Rowley, E Kilrane, D Casey 0-1, C McNamara 0-2, M Murphy 2-6, B McCrann 1-0, A McCrann, H Boyle.

The Manor ladies already have two points secured however a loss would leave the group positioning decided on the basis of scoring difference. Our Junior side will be looking to recover from the defeat to Keeldra Gaels as they take on Annaduff at 12.30pm at the same venue. The side will be eager to secure two points in their quest to reach the Junior Final.  Best of luck to both teams and their management.

Comhbhron Trevor Martin – Footballer and Hurler – RIP
Ballinamore Hurling club would like to express their deep sadness at the news of the death of Trevor Martin at the young age of 36.
Initially, he played underage football with Ballinamore Seán O’Heslin’s, but transferred to the Aughawillan/Drumreilly combination, then under the name Drumreilly. He won a number of underage titles with them and was a key forward in many of their successes. He later returned to play football with O’Heslin’s.
Trevor will be especially remembered as a hurler and his enthusiasm for the game was exceptional. He would never miss a training session and his contribution to many of our successes at underage level was immense. In 1996, Ballinamore hurlers had a memorable win over St Mary’s in the County Under 16 Final, the score being 3-6 to 3-2.  The Leitrim Observer report of the game stated that “what clinched the match was the brilliant goal scoring of Trevor Martin”.
In 2001, Trevor was playing in the Co Senior Hurling Final against St Mary’s in Annaduff and received an accidental but serious head wound early in the game. He was taken to a doctor who stitched and bandaged his head. Trevor returned to the match and wanted to get playing again. Such was his enthusiasm.
A guard of honour of Ballinamore Hurlers and Aughawillan footballers met his remains at Ballinamore Church on Thursday evening, showing the high esteem in which he was held.
Ballinamore Hurling club extends sympathy to his father Peter, brothers Damien and Jason, sisters Caroline, Tracey and Vanessa and his children Benjamin and Sophia.
