Wedding Bells – Congratulations to a former Player and Physio (often at the same time) Ronan Conroy Annaduff Glebe who Married Mary Rock recently I believe the two are honeymooning in the Maldives at the moment best wishes for your future together. Also to a current player  Noel Ward Gortinty on his marriage to Tracey O Leary over the weekend who hails from Killarney we also wish them best wishes for the future.

Bord na Óg – The underage boys are due to kick off on Saturday next the 17th with our U17s playing host to Drumkeerin at 12 noon. Sunday at noon sees the U13s start their league also at home against Fenagh-St Caillins. Please come along and support the lads !! SOCIAL NIGHT – Cloone GAA is hosting a social night in Mckeon’s Bar on this Saturday night February 17thand it promises to be a great occasion.  Music on the night will be provided by Mickey Clerkin and there will be a number of draws on the night. The lotto draw will take place on the night and there will be the free house draw, and numerous draws on the night for valuable prizes. All members and supporters are asked to be present.

DIV 2 LEAGUE – The opening dates for the start of Division 1 and 2 league have been announced with Cloone to start their campaign against Melvin Gaels on the weekend of March 31st April 1st.

ALLIANZ NATIONAL LEAGUE – There was no joy for Leitrim in Net Watch Cullen park at the weekend going down to Carlow on a scoreline of 2 11 to 05. There is no game this weekend with the next outing against Limerick in Pairc Sean MacDiarmada the following weekend.

YEARLY LOTTO –  Members of the club will be calling to all houses in the parish with yearly Lotto tickets. There is a concerted effort to increase the number of yearly lotto tickets and your support would be much appreciated. This is one way to ensure that you are in all draws.

QUIZ – Preparations for the Battle of the Townlands quiz is going well with some townlands in serious training. All townland are asked to have a team ready for the battle on Saturday, March 31st

SYMPATHY – The club would like to extend its sympathy to the family of the late Paddy Phelan whose funeral took place on Monday, February 11th. Paddy, a gentleman of the highest calibre, a native of Co Kilkenny has been one of the driving forces behind the promotion of hurling in Leitrim for many years.

The club would also extend its sympathy to the family and friends of the late Gus Guckian who passed to his eternal reward recently. Gus played against us on many occasions and wasn’t the easiest defender to negotiate by. May he rest in peace.

Scór na nÓg All Ireland – Best wishes to our young singer Amelia Pajek who is representing Mohill Club and County Leitrim in the All Ireland of Scór na nÓg on Saturday next in Sligo. To reach the final is an amazing achievement so everything after that is a bonus.

Underage Boys and Girls – Mohill GAA is starting its Underage Football Academy at 10am on Feb 17at the old Marian College site. The Under 7s will be indoors while the Under 9’s and 11’s will be on the Astro Turf. All boys and girls are welcome and new members are more than welcome. Gerry McGovern –The Club congratulates Gerry McGovern on his appointment as Chairman of Connacht Council last week. Gerry has been heavily involved in all aspects of the GAA since his playing days with Cloone. We sincerely wish him well in his new position.

Cash for Clobber – If you wish to get rid of surplus clothes, bed linen, towels, shoes, belts and soft toys and do a spring clean, the Mohill Ladies are collecting every Saturday in the Clubrooms from 10 to 12pm for the month of February as a fundraiser.  

County Team – The County boys are finding the going tough these days but this young team needs more support than ever. Hopefully, everyone will turn out in two weeks time for the next home game.

Kube Quiz – As part of a fundraiser for John Mulligan who is participating in Eslin’s Kube there is a Table Quiz in Spirit Bar on Friday February 16 at 8pm

Ladies Ready for the Kingdom – St. Francis ladies make the long trip to Kerry this weekend for the Paidí O Shea tournament, where they will stay in Dingle and compete against teams from Mayo and West Kerry in the group stage of the competition. We wish them the best of luck. No doubt it will be a memorable occasion.

Silver Medal for Micheal – Congratulations to Micheal Cornyn who won a silver medal at the 800m run at the Scottish indoor Masters Athletics Championships in the Emirates Arena Glasgow recently.

Congratulations – Congrats to Gerry McGovern, Cloone, on being elected Connaught GAA Council president. Congratulations also to Andy Redican, Drumkeerin, on being elected Leitrim GAA president. A great honour for both men.

Tony McGowan Run – The 6th Annual Tony McGowan Run takes place this Sunday, February 18th at 1:30pm. Registration from 12noon at the Mayflower. The event is organised by Drumshanbo Athletic Club in association with the Shannon Blueway and this year will see an exciting new route along the new Boardwalk at Acres Lake.  Anyone available to help with stewarding on the day should contact Oisin Dolan as soon as possible.

Senior Scór – Calling all local talent!! Scor Sinsir Liatroma will take place on Saturday, March 3rd at 7.30pm. The Leirim quiz competition takes place on the same day at 6pm. It would be great to have people represent Melvin Gaels, particularly in the Solo Singing or Recitation section. Presentation of Medals – Presentation of under 13  Shield winners took place in the community last Friday night and there was a great turn out. Thanks to Emlyn Mulligan for coming along and presenting the medals. Thanks also to all who organised the refreshments and helped in any way.

Lights On Weekly Walk Group – Melvin Gaels and Kinlough Community with the GAA, in partnership with RTÉ’s Operation Transformation) will continue with the walk each Monday evening at 7pm . Everyone is welcome to come along to the Community Centre and join in. Despite the bad night a good crowd turned for the fourth week. Underage – The under 17 kick off the competitive action for the club year when they start their league campaign on Saturday next hosting St Josephs in Leitrim at 12 Noon. The Under 13 team are in action on Sunday and will host Dromahair at home in Leitrim at 12 noon. Best of luck to both teams and management.

Gaeltacht Grant – Leitrim County Board and Leitrim County Council have agreed on a scheme for Gaeltacht Grants for 2018. Applications will be accepted from boys and girls resident in Leitrim and, for these grants, they do not need to be members of GAA clubs. Grants of €200 will be awarded to the successful applicants who will be drawn from a hat. Applicants who were unsuccessful under the GAA’s own scheme will be included in the draw and need not apply again. Application forms can be found on the Leitrim GAA website and should be returned to Oifigeach Cultúr agus Teanga, Pairc Sean Mac Diarmada, Cora Droma Ruisc, Co Liatroma by 5 pm on Friday, February 16th. National Draw Tickets – The National draw tickets are on sale locally, they cost €10 each with fantastic prizes. This is one of our main Fundraising events and all proceeds go towards the cost of running the club. We very much appreciate your support.

Leitrim Supporters Draw – The Leitrim GAA supporter’s tickets are now available from any club officer. If at all possible can you buy your ticket from a Leitrim Gaels club member as each club has their own allocation of tickets which they must sell, rather than outside the Club. The proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards the cost of preparing the Leitrim Senior team throughout the year. As usual, there is a wide range of decent prizes for all members entered in the draw. You also get a car Sticker showing your support for Leitrim. Tickets are priced at €50.

Sympathy – We would like to pass on our deepest sympathy to the family of Paddy Phelan. He was a stalwart of hurling in the county/ Carrick Hurling Club collecting and dropping Leitrim Village lads home after training sessions and games throughout his life. A gentleman from Kilkenny he will be fondly remembered in Leitrim and beyond.
