U12 – St Joseph’s U12s played two rounds of the Longford/Leitrim league this week. The first game took place in Aughavas against Grattan Gaels on Monday evening. At halftime St Joseph’s were trailing by four points but they put in a very determined performance in the second half to go into the lead and seemed to be heading for victory but unfortunately a late flurry of goals from their opponents in the last five minutes meant that they lost out on a final scoreline of St Joseph’s 5-07 Grattan Gaels 6-08. This was a  heartbreaking defeat for St Josephs who had the win snatched from their grasp in the dying minutes of the game. Hopefully, a harsh lesson learned. On Thursday evening, we travelled to Newtowncashel to take on Southern Gaels. Playing against the strong breeze in the first half the St Joseph’s defence put in a determined showing in the first twenty minutes to only trail by a point at that stage, but unfortunately their resistance cracked as the half wore on and the concession of a few soft scores left our lads trailing by 3-04 to 0-03 at halftime. With the wind advantage, a good start to the second half was required but St Joseph’s never got going and Southern Gaels won out comfortably on a final scoreline of 6-11 to 1-05. We round off our games in the competition with an away game against Colmcille on Thursday evening.
