After the weekends action we now know the lineup for September 9th as Aughavas meet Drumreilly in the Intermediate County Final and Kiltubrid play St. Marys in the main event the Senior Championship. All four teams will relish the chance to be the first to lift their respective Championship Cups in the new stand.

The opening game on Saturday evening between Aughnasheelin and Aughavas was an entertaining event even though Aughavas controlled most of the game. Both teams started off well but Aughavas showed some of their class as they eventually put daylight between the sides with some lovely open football while making full use of the width of the field. With a good lead to their credit they made error of relaxing and allowed Aughnasheelin back into the game in the second half. The last quarter in particular was fast flowing as Aughnasheelin tried very hard but couldnt reel in the scores and with a penalty chance that went wide they finished 4 behind winners Aughavas.  Final score: Aughnasheelin 0-09  Aughavas 1-10

Saturday evenings senior fare was a typical county semi final as St Marys locked horns with Carrigallen in a game the started off brightly but as it progressed Carrigallen were passed out by a dogged St. Marys team who were very determined to make it to the final.  In a low Scóring first half St. Marys neutralised the potential of the Carrigallen forwards with good performances by James Glancy, Dermot Reynolds and Cassidy  the half time score was 0-4 to 0-2 in favour of St. Marys.  In the second half St. Marys were in control and with Carrigallen reduced to 14 men they didn t mount a sufficient attack.  Final score Carrigallen 0-04 St. Marys 0-09

Yesterdays St. Marys – Drumreilly Intermediate semifinal  ended in  a Drumreilly win but they had their moments int he first half when St. Marys asked some serious questions of them.  Drumreilly pulled away in the second half and it finished Drumreilly 1-14  St. Marys 0-11.

The last game in Pairc Sean for the weekend was the Senior clash between Bornacoola and Kiltubrid.  This game brought back many memories of the 05 final and while the winners remained the same the score line was not near as dramatic.  This was a very entertaining game for all spectators as the crowd got behind both teams and roar from the new stand was in line with the pace of the game.  Kiltubrid opened the Scóring with a point on the 4th minute and that was it for 15 minutes as Bornacoola registered 4 unanswered points.  Kiltubrid weatherd the Bornacoola period and hit a purple patch of their own as they registered 5 points without reply.  Into injury time and Bornacoola leveled the scores with 2 points leaving all square at  6 points a piece for the interval.

The second half was end to end stuff without a score for 10 minutes when finally Kiltubrid registered a point, the first score of this half.   Bornacoola drew level on the 14th minute and 6 minutes later Kiltubrid scored another point from play. Bornacoola answered again in the 22nd minute to bring it level for the last time.  Kiltubrid held their nerve and on the 27th minute pulled 1 point in front.  This was followed quickly by a point 1 minute later.  Bornacoola tried hard but couldn t rein in Kiltubrid and with 3 minutes of injury time played the final score, a point, went to Kiltubrid.  Final score Kiltubrid 0-11 Bornacoola 0-08.

Pressure weekend for 8 teams as the last 4 in the Seniors and the Intermediates get down to the nitty gritty of the semi finals.  Relegation looms for Intermediates Ballinaglera or Eslin in their playoff which is tomorrow evening at 7pm.

Intermediates:

Tomorrow evenings clash in the Intermediates between Aughnasheelin and Aughavas will be a mouth watering opening to the semis.  Aughnasheelin are the surprise package in this competition with a big improvement this year compared to recent years.  Aughavas are playing well at the moment and will have their hands full to contain this Aughnasheelin team,  their experienced heads will be called on if they are to make it to the finals.

On Sunday evening its the favourites Drumreilly meeting St. Marys in another exciting enounter.  The second string St. Marys team will be looking to upset the apple cart in this encounter that should draw a good crowd.

Seniors:

The first Senior semi clash is tomorrow evening between St. Marys and Carrigallen.  Carrigallen have made a big impact on this years championship with their win over Melvin Gaels and are now in the position of underdogs as they take on the experienced St. Marys.  St. Marys will be eager to go all the way this year and they will be calling on their county players to make a big impact to curtail the pacey Carrigallen squad.

The final semifinal of the weekend is the meeting of Kiltubrid and Bornacoola.  This game will bring back memories of the final in 2005 for both teams when Kiltubrid ran out clear winners but its a new year and Bornacoola are the only team who to not lost a game to-date in this Championship.  Midfield will have a bearing on this game as the County partnership for Bornacoola will be testing opposition for Kiltubrid.

Junior A has only one fixture which is the Quarterfinal replay of Mohill and St. Marys  this game ended in a draw last weekend and the semis are expected to be played next weekend.

Junior B is now at Round 4 this weekend with 1 more round to go and Junior C has moved on to round two after the opening round last weekend.  Both championships have 4 games each this weekend.

Best of luck to all teams participating this weekend.

In recent days we have had requests to our Guestbook regarding League football and the promotion/ relegation from specific Championships.  In each case the CCC have issed a reponse and the following are their responses:

League commencement:
"Clubs may expect league games to resume asap early in September. League games will resume when more teams are eliminated from Championships. As of yet with 5 championships on the go there are still 45/56 championship teams involved in competition over all grades."

Championships –  Relegation & Promotion:
"In response to the query the answer is that in the event of St. Mary’s winning the IFC then there will be no promotion/relegation from SFC to IFC at the conclusion of the 2007 championships. At the conclusion of the JFCB and JFCC round robin stage the team in first place inÓgroup 1 will play the second placed team inÓgroup 2 in SF1 and the team in first place inÓgroup 2 will play the team in second place inÓgroup 1 in SF2. There will be no Quarter Finals. The teams that finish in fifth place inÓgroups 1 and 2 will play off to decide relegation fro JFCB to JFCC 2008."

The action starts tomorrow evening at 6pm in Pairc Sean and Cloone as Kiltubrid meet Mohill and Bornacoola meet Sean O Heslins in their respective venues. The third game is Annaduff and St. Marys in Pairc Sean at 7:30pm. Both Melvin Gaels and Carrigallen have an extra days rest or wait depending how you want to look at it as they play in Sunday afternoon at 3:30pm in Pairc Sean. Its interesting to note that half of the participants are all winners since 2003 (St.Marys, Annaduff, Kiltubrid, Mohill) all of whom are in with a sporting chance.

ALL SENIOR QUARTERFINALS will be covered on our Live scoreboard service as we keep you up to speed with the progress of each game no matter where you are in the world. Once your connected in, which incidentally only takes a few seconds, then you have full access to live scores, news items, fixtures and other results. See the separate news item for further info.

The Senior & Intermediate relegations will be played off starting next weekend with the finals the following weekend

Its also crunch time in the Intermediate Championship with 2 games lined up for Saturday evening and 2 for Sunday afternoon. First out are Drumkeerin and Aughavas in Drumshanbo at 6:30pm followed at 7:30pm by Gortletteragh and Aughnasheelin in Cloone.
Drumreilly and Cloone meet on Sunday afternoon in Pairc Sean at 2pm while a half hour time later in Drumshanbo St. Marys play Glenfarne/Kiltyclougher.

On Sunday itsAnnaduff v Leitrim Gaels (2:30pm, Kiltubrid), Aughnasheelin v Glencar/Manor (4:00pm, Kiltubrid), and Kiltubrid v Cloone (5:00pm, Bornacoola)
