This is so important to the Club.

Improvements to Facilities – More Fundraising ideas are needed to help with the badly needed improvements to the facilities available to the Club.  The drainage of Melvin Park is almost completed and funds are needed badly and it will take a lot to complete Phase 1 of the project, which is the realignment of the carpark wall and draining and realignment of the playing. It is an exciting and ambitious project which will cost in excess of €200,000 but it is urgently needed. More Club members and players are needed to help. The support has been very good so far. The fundraising will involve “Make Your Mark on Melvin Park” for €100 which will represent a square of Melvin Park, entry into a draw, prizes 5x €1000, and your name on a commemorative plaque. To get your “Mark on Melvin Park” contact Spar, Kinlough or Pat at 0871787194 or Katherine at 087 287 0086 or go towww.kinloughcommunitycentre.wordpress.com.

Smith’s Monumental Leitrim Intermediate Championship – Our Intermediate team were in action on Sunday against Leitrim Gaels in the quarterfinal of the championship. They put in a great performance against a very good Leitrim Gaels team but were unable to progress to the semi-final losing the game 2:14 to 0:10. Over the course of the campaign these lads have played some great football and have certainly shown that they deserved to be in this competition defeating some first team squads and playing a good brand of football. INTERMEDIATE LADIES CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI FINAL – The Ladies’ season concluded on Sunday last as they fell at the semi-final stage of the championship in Annaduff with their opponents, Mohill, recording a 4-8 to 1-8 victory and thus they claimed their place in this year’s decider with St Francis. Out of the blocks early, our girls had 1-1 on the board as a Hannah Farrell goal and a Kelly Howard point had them into their stride. As the half wore on Mohill came more into it and had taken the lead by the end of the first quarter. Aisling Leahy with a pointed free and two Hannah Farrell points from play put our girls back in control. A Mohill purple patch just before the interval which saw them register 2-4 without reply proved to be our girls undoing as the teams entered the break on a scoreline of St/Mary’s/Bornacoola 1-4 Mohill 3-6. A fourth Mohill goal early in the second half left the mountain steeper to climb, but to the girls’ credit they fought on gamely despite the odds stacked against them. Three Aisling Leahy points and one from Sarah Reynolds was to be their only reward in this half hour and while the defence worked extremely hard to hold the Mohill attack to 1-2 across this period of play, the winners had done enough to edge the battle and we congratulate them on their win and wish them the very best of luck in the upcoming decider with championship favourites, St Francis. While the girls’ season has ended we have to compliment the girls for their overall dedication towards training and matches since last February. They claimed the Division 3 League title in July and have made great progress in their step up from winning the Junior Championship last year. They played eleven competitive matches over the season across the league and championship, winning eight and losing in just three. So, hold your heads high and look forward to building on this in 2019 girls! On duty on Sunday last were: Kathy Butler, Cora McCauley, Jasmine Maye, Hannah Reynolds, Enya Guckian, Lorraine Guckian, Emily Reynolds, Kasey Bruen, Alison McKeon, Aisling Leahy (0-4). Sara Crowe, Rachel McGarry, Sarah Reynolds (0-1), Kelly Howard (0-1), Hannah Farrell (1-2), Lauren Hackett, Joanne McGushin, Lisa Guckian, Isabelle Chandler, Ellen Woods, Caroline Guckian and Hannah Bird.

Championship  –  On Saturday eve we took on Melvin Gaels in Drumshanbo – a win or a draw would see us progress to the Quarter Finals but it wasn’t to be – game started at a fast past on a very slippery surface – Melvin Gaels had the first score – we got off the mark with a point from Conor Cullen – we settled well and Fintan Fitzpatrick put the ball over the bar from a free.  Aaron Hoare had a good score from play this followed with a great ball intercepted by  Fergal Early which he passed into  Gavin Sammon who popped it over the bar – Brendan Mulvey followed with a good score – we followed up with 2 points from Fintan Fitzpatrick which left us going in at the break 7 points to 5.  Brendan Mulvey was a big loss to injury at the break – again Melvin Gaels got the 1st score of the 2nd half – we struggled in the 2nd half scoring only 2 points Fintan Fitzpatrick and Barry McWeeney from a free – we had chances but lady luck didn’t shine on us  –  from here we go into playoff with Dromahair in 2 weeks – Team Gavin McWeeney, Paddy McManus, Cathal Egan, Paul Earley, Christy McNulty, Sean McWeeney, Wayne Gilgunn, Barry McWeeney, Conor Cullen, Brendan Mulvey, Fintan Fitzpatrick, Fergal Earley,Aaron Hoare, Ciaran Cullen, Gavin Sammon – Subs Ben McGirl, Philip Dolan, Damian Gilheaney, Sean Mahon.  Well done lads for some great football over the summer and speedy recovery to our injured players.

Connacht Gold Senior Championship – The lads were in action on Saturday in Pairc Sean against Mohil in a match to determine the final positions in the table and establish who are opponents would be in the quarterfinals. It was a tough game played in difficult conditions with Mohill winning the match with a score of 0:14 to 1:07. The loss means that we finished the group on 5 points in fourth place and will now play Glencar Manor in the quarterfinals with this game due to take place on Saturday in Pairc Sean at 18:00, your support for the lads in this massive game would be greatly appreciated.

Smith’s Monumental Leitrim Intermediate Championship – Our second team were in action on Sunday against Annaduff losing a tight game by two points with the final score 1:12 to 0:13 in favour of Annaduff. The loss though unfortunate does not stop us from progressing to the quarter-final stages after finishing fourth in our group on 4 points just ahead of Carrigallen. We have now been drawn against Leitrim Gaels in a match to be played on Sunday in Pairc Sean at 18:00, this promises to a titanic match against a team that has won four and drawn one, your support for the lads in this match would be greatly appreciated.

Connacht GAA Bursary Scheme – Connacht GAA has again reiterated their commitment to the on-going educational development of its players and members by announcing details of the 2018/2019 GAA National Student Bursary scheme. Senior Championship – The lads ensured their place in the Quarter Finals with a win over Drumreilly on Saturday evening. We take on St Mary’s on Sunday at 1.30 in Ballinamore in the knockout stages.

U17 – Rinn Gaels faced Melvin Gaels in Pairc Sean last Saturday morning in the Minor 13 a side Final. We played a good first half but with all our hard work we went in at halftime only a point up. We started the second half with two points to leave it 07-04, they say goals win games and Melvin Gaels struck for their first of two goals in a five-minute purple patch. We struggled to control the running of Melvin Gaels and got it hard to break their defence, in fairness to our lads they never gave up. With five minutes to go, we trailed by five points but the battling spirit of these boys kept fighting and got two points to leave a goal in it. With only 3 minutes of injury time announced which probably could have been 5 or 6 minutes with all the stoppages in the second half. However, we piled on the pressure and very unlucky not to get a goal to level it only for a great save by the keeper and a follow-up shot coming off the post too. Credit has to go to the coaches Mark Duignan and Kevin Mallon and all the players for their hard work all year and only losing out by a kick of a ball. The team lined out as Sean O’Riordan, Tom Reel, Kieran Reen, Oisin Niblock, Ciarán McGlynn, Odhran Heslin, James Cunningham, Shane Mallon, Brendan Davis, Shane Reynolds, Ryan Cunningham, Jamie Quinn, Ciarán Reynolds, subs used James Doyle, Nathan Ward, Conor Niblock, Cian McNulty
