Connacht Gold Senior Championship – We finished the group with a heavy defeat to Aughawillan on Saturday evening in Drumshanbo. This now means that we face a relegation semi-final against Aughnasheelin in 2 weeks time with time and venue TBC.
Westlink Coaches U15 Championship – A busy week for our U15s as we face Glencar/Manor away on Tuesday 11th and also Mohill at home on Friday 14th with both matches at 6.30pm. The lads will be looking to put the disappointment of an opening day defeat vs Allen Gaels last week behind them.
Cúrsaí Gaeilge – Now that the evenings are closing in maybe you’d like to spend a few pleasant hours over the next few weeks using the cúpla focal you have somewhere in your head. It is proposed to run a few sessions directed at Leaving Cert students to help them gain confidence before the Scrúdú Cainte next Spring. In parallel, there will be a series of get-togethers covering all aspects of Irish culture using the cúpla focal. More details next week.

Intermediate – Well done to our intermediate team on their win over Mohill on Sunday

U-12 Girls Shield Final – Our u12 girls travelled to Aughavas on Friday evening for their shield final against Kiltubrid. Kiltubrid started the match strongly going into a 2-2 to no score lead midway through the first half. Our girls started to get to grips with the game however and went in at half time trailing by just 5 points. The Bors came out strongly in the second half and reduced the deficit to 2 points entering the closing minutes. A goal on the stroke of full time put us up by one point but two late Kiltubrid points meant it was not to be our day losing out by a single point. However, it was a fantastic performance by our girls who showed great determination and skill thoughout the game, and they should be very proud of their efforts. This group of girls have given us great entertainment throughout the season working hard and improving with each game played . Well done to the girls and to Ann Marie Boyle and her management team for their sterling service throughout the year. The team for the Shield final was Emma Donlon, Elana Kilraine, Blanáid Reynolds, Mary Shanley, Orla Hackett, Jolie Lyons, Megan Molloy, Katelyn Boyle, Fiona Mulligan, Rachel Mallon, Eimear Healy, Grace Duignan, Nessa O Riordan and Elly Conboy.

Senior Championship – Our final group stage game in the Senior Championship took place on Saturday evening last in Cloone when we faced a dominant St Marys. Three goals in the opening 12 minutes effectively put the game beyond Bornacoola’s reach but nonetheless, our young side kept going to the final whistle and found some consolation in a late Ronan Mulligan goalWe now move to the Relegation semi final on Saturday evening next when Drumreilly are our opponents in Cloone. Throw in is 6pm. Team v St Marys was; Conor Hackett, Kevin Mulligan, Jason Conroy, Brian Duffy, Mervyn Howard, Conor Mc Cauley, Liam Mulligan, Allan Croghan (0-1), Anthony Mulligan (0-3), Sean Mc Keon, Damian Moran, Ronan Mulligan (1-1), Philip Howard (0-1), Liam Jones (0-1) and Brian Conroy (0-2). Subs used were Cian Mallon, Roy Keenan, Noel Mc Enroe, Luke Jones and Gearoid Mulligan.

Can all ticket sellers return their tickets to their co-ordinator in advance of Saturdays draw. Thanks to everyone who supported this fundraiser to date.

Minor Championship Final – Rinn Gaels faced Melvin Gaels in the Division 2 Minor Championship Final in Páirc Seán on Saturday last. Having lost by 12 points to the Kinlough side in the round robin stage of the Championship, it was always going to be an uphill battle for the Bornacoola/Gortletteragh amalgamation. And so it proved, as despite leading by two points at half time, Melvin Gaels proved the better team in the second half and two goals in that period would ensure their eventual 2-11 to 1-11 victory. However, it was once again a positive campaign for the Rinn Gaels lads and much improvement was evident over the course of the campaign. The team in Saturday’s final was Sean O Riordan, Tom Reel, Ciaran Reen, Oisin Niblock, Ciaran Mc Glynn, Odhran Heslin, James Cunningham, Shane Mallon, Ryan Cunningham, Shane Reynolds, Brendan Davis, Jamie Quinn and Ciaran Reynolds while the subs bench included Jake Shields (who was injured for the final), Conor Niblock, James Doyle, Cian Mc Nulty, Brendan Naughton, Mark Reynolds and Nathan Ward. A big well done and thank you to the management team of Kevin Mallon and Mark Duignan

Sympathy – Our deepest sympathies are extended to the Farrell family, Bunanassa, on the passing of Dan’s mother, Rose, grandmother of current senior player Daniel, in Westmeath last week. Ar dheis Dé go raibh sí.

Lough Rynn Harvest Festival – The Lough Rynn Harvest Festival and Vintage day takes place on Sunday week next, September 23rd. All of the usual attractions will be in place and it once again promises to be the highlight of the year. There will be a huge variety of trade stalls, vintage cars, farm machinery, steam engines and a threshing display. Guided tours of the walled gardens will be available as well as the RSA Shuttle Bus simulator. With live music, a country market, craft village and demonstrations, zorbing, a rodeo bull and Irish whip wrestling as well as Amusements, face painting, Billy Bubbles Puppet Show, mini train, street theatre and the usual Bonny Baby, cat and dog shows, there really is something for all the family. Further information is available at www.loughrynnvintagefestival.ie.   As ever stewards are required, so we would ask all club members who can to make themselves available on the day.

Ladies Intermediate Championship – The Ladies’ season concluded on Sunday last as they fell at the semi-final stage of the championship in Annaduff with their opponents, Mohill, recording a 4-8 to 1-8 victory. Out of the blocks early, Bornacoola/StMarys had 1-1 on the board as a Hannah Farrell goal and a Kelly Howard point had them into their stride. As the half wore on Mohill came more into it and had taken the lead by the end of the first quarter. Aisling Leahy with a pointed free and two Hannah Farrell points from play put our girls back in control. A Mohill purple patch just before the interval which saw them register 2-4 without reply proved to be our girls undoing as the teams entered the break on a scoreline of 1-4 to 3-6. A fourth Mohill goal early in the second half left the mountain steeper to climb, but to the girls’ credit they fought on gamely despite the odds stacked against them. Three Aisling Leahy points and one from Sarah Reynolds was to be their only reward in this half hour and while the defence worked extremely hard to hold the Mohill attack to 1-2 across this period of play, the winners had done enough to edge the battle and we congratulate them on their win and wish them the very best of luck in the upcoming decider with championship favourites, St Francis. While the girls’ season has ended we have to compliment them for their overall dedication towards training and matches since last February. They claimed the Division 3 League title in July and have made great progress in their step up from winning the Junior Championship last year. They played eleven competitive matches over the season across the league and championship, winning eight and losing in just three; well done to manager Declan Bohan for his commitment to the team throughout the year also.  On duty on Sunday last were: Kathy Butler, Cora McCauley, Jasmine Maye, Hannah Reynolds, Enya Guckian, Lorraine Guckian, Emily Reynolds, Kasey Bruen, Alison McKeon, Aisling Leahy (0-4). Sara Crowe, Rachel McGarry, Sarah Reynolds (0-1), Kelly Howard (0-1), Hannah Farrell (1-2), Lauren Hackett, Joanne McGushin, Lisa Guckian, Isabelle Chandler, Ellen Woods, Caroline Guckian and Hannah Bird.

Camógie Success – It’s not too often that Camogie gets a mention in our notes: however, when Dublin captured the All Ireland Junior Camogie title in Croke Park last Sunday, there was a close Borancoola connection. Caoimhe Ní Mhaolagáin (Mulligan) from the Eoghan Ruadh/Oliver Plunkett’s club lined out at wing back for the Dubs and is the grandniece of Gerry Mulligan (Currycramp). Caomihe’s dad Neillidh is the well-known Uileann Piper (his first album was titled “Barr na Cúile” in tribute to our parish) and her grandfather, the late Tom (T.P) was one of the best known names in the traditional music scene in Dublin for many years. Comhgairdeas do Caoimhe agus do Clann Uí Mhaolagáin as an éacht iontach seo.

Mohill Ladies – Coming into Sunday’s game, Mohill ladies were complete underdogs but they used this tag to their advantage and left a bigger stronger Carrick/Bornacoola side chasing shadows at the end of an exciting Intermediate semi-final. Their level of fitness has improved greatly under the management of the Canning brothers, Gary and Shane. Every player gave it their all and it was a great team effort but the presence of Dearbhille Beirne, one of “Ireland’s Fittest Family” and soccer international was an added bonus as she broke the hearts of her markers, scoring 3-4 of the total of 4-8. The panel and scorers was, M Hackett, E Gordon, M Stenson,C Beirne, S Doyle, C Canning, O McGuinness, C Quinn ,E Quinn 0-1, S Boyle 0-1, M Beirne, R Stenson 1-1, C Mitchell, D Beirne 3-4, N Beirne 0-1,L Casey, G Stenson, A McGuinness, S McNabola, C Mulligan. . They now play St Francis in the final in two weeks time.

Under 13 – This bunch of lads entertained us all year winning most games and playing wonderful football. On Monday last in the semi-final of the Championship they hit an off day and were beaten by St Mary’s. Admittedly they encountered a magnificient Carrick team who had all the skills on show on the night. The boys were disappointed but there will be great days ahead for these young men. The panel and scorers was, L Bohan, M Tiernan, A McGuinness, A Mulligan, L Flynn, C Donohue, C Walpole, E Duignan 0-1, J Rowley 0-1, K McCaffrey, M Murphy 1-4, E Kilrane,C McNamara 0-1, S Curran, D Casey, H Boyle 1-0, J McCrann, T Mayock, A McCrann, B McCrann, P Coka. Man of the match was the goalie Luke Bohan. Thanks to Paul Murphy and John McGuinness who coached the boys all year.

Junior A –The Junior team bowed out of the Championship on Saturday last with a heavy defeat at the hands of Glencar-Manor. The absence of top scorer Colm Beirne did not help, but Manor’s second string was way too strong for our third team. U3 Championship Final – After beating St Bridget’s in our semi final at home which was a very close encounter, we booked our place in the final versus Ballinamore in Cloone last Saturday morning at 12 o’clock. We started the game lively putting over 5 points in quick succession. As Ballinamore settled into the game it was tit for tat for the rest of the half. At half time we went in with a lead 09 to 05. We started the  second half where we left off in the first half and never surrendered our lead for the rest of the game. From start to finish we displayed great team work everyone working for each other all over the field. From our goalkeeper David Liu Doyle kick outs to our fullbacks Luke and Tommy keeping Ballinamore out. Our center half backs George, Jonathan and Nathan defending with real tenacity, our midfield pairing of Jack and Mathew controlled kick outs and set up several attacks. The three center half forwards Adam , Riaghan and Brian won vital ball to set up scores with Adam getting the only goal of the game. Our two inside forwards worked hard, Ultán setting up scores and Noah picking off the scores at vital stages in the game. There was some great free taking on display both from the hands and off the ground. Oisin and Jack played their part when they came off the bench to help out. We also had Aaron, Senan, Brian, Ben, Ollie and Ryan to call on too. We ran out winners on a score line 1-16 to 12 points. This group of lads have put in a huge effort all year and their hard work has paid off in style in winning the U13 championship. Well done to the entire panel and their mentors Tom, Seamus, Ciaran and Richie.
