The Late Tommie Flynn –  It was with great sadness that we learned of the death over the weekend of one of our great clubmen Tommie Flynn.  Tommie was heavily involved in the reforming of the club in 1972 and played a very active role in the running of the club at that time. He was the secretary from 1972 to 78 and was also a selector for the senior team in the early years after its reformation, where Aughawillan picked up their first senior championship in 1976 and added another in 1978.  Off the field, in 1976 Tommie played a leading role in sourcing and purchasing the land where our football field and clubrooms are today. This was the first time Aughawillan ever had their own club grounds.  Between 1976 and 1982 he was instrumental in the development of the newly purchased land, where the field was drained, resurfaced, new access road made, and dressing rooms constructed, before its official opening in May 1982.  Tommie continued to occupy many and varied roles within the club including chairman and treasurer to name but a few, during Aughawillan’s golden era of the 80’s and 90’s.  We want to offer our sincere appreciation for Tommie’s dedication, commitment and hard work in a voluntary capacity over a long period to the development and improvement of Aughawillan GAA Club.  We offer our sincere sympathy to his wife Mamie, daughter Geraldine and sons John, Martin and Francis and the wider Flynn family.  Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
