County Under-20 Team
There were lots of sad Leitrim faces trudging out of a cold and wet Sean O Heslin’s Memorial Park Ballinamore on Wednesday evening last having just witnessed our county under 20 team suffer a 3-16 to 2-6 defeat at the hands of a more composed add clinical Roscommon side who also appeared older and stronger than our boys in a do or die 4th round Connacht Championship Local Derby contest between these arch rivals. Our boys never gave up in the face of adversity and played their young hearts out to the bitter end, but their goose was well and truly cooked when livewire Forward Darren Cox was dismissed in the second-half, (even though his exciting surging runs were ending where they perhaps should have been starting). The Annaduff youngster looked capable of causing the winners some damage. The unbeaten Rossies for whom Shane McGinley and Bobby Nugent were superb upfront now go on to contest Connacht Finals, while Andy Moran’s charges must pick themselves up for the Philly McGuinness final.
White Collar Boxing
Due to popular demand, and following a hugely entertaining and well supported night at the Sports Hub last October bank holiday weekend, we have decided to go for Round 2 of the thrilla in Mohilla White Collar boxing event again on the Sunday night of the October bank holiday weekend this year which will fall on Sunday October 28th. This fundraising event received great plaudits last year, and we hope to put on another great show again this year. Our boxing committee and participants deserve great credit for making last Autumn's event such an overwhelming success.
County Minor
As somebody once said “it was deja vous all over again” as Sligo scored a last gasp winner against Leitrim’s deep into injury time in last Friday evening’s closely contested Connacht Minor Football (Under-17) Championship 1st round clash in Markievicz Park, with the boys from the Yates County winning out in the end on the 0-9 to 0-8 scoreline. A draw perhaps would have been a fairer result after an arm wrestle of a contest, but as our under-20 also found out at the same venue the previous week, it's not over till it's actually over.. Club player Ryan Gordon was on the Subs.
Connacht Minor Championship
Our best wishes go to the County Minor team (Under-17) ahead of next Friday evenings Connacht Championship clash with Roscommon in Ballinamore. The Club have two players Frankie Mc Manus and Ryan Gordon on the panel.
Philly McGuinness Cup
Our Club grounds, The Philly McGuinness Memorial Park will appropriatly host the Connacht B Under-20 Championship Philly McGuinness Cup final on Saturday next when Leitrim takes on Mayo in the decider with a 4pm throw in time. last week marked the 14th anniversary of Philly’s passing. Gone but never forgotten. and indeed very fondly remembered.
50/50 draw
Congrats. to Amy and Rachel Bohan, daughters of Aidan and Brenda Bohan from Funshinagh who were the lucky winners of our 50/50 draw which took place in Casey’s bar, (the only pub actually in Mohill according to our Honorary President Bula) on Friday night last. The girls won the pot of €2,560. Thanks for entering and enjoy. Thanks also to publican Thomas Casey who pulled out the winning ticket for hosting the draw, and thanks again to everybody who supported it. This week’s draw will take place in the Green Rooster (Cusacks) on Friday night next. Last weeks lucky ticket was bought in O’Carolans.
Spring League
After four rounds of this Spring League our Senior team remain unbeaten following another comprehensive victory this time at the expense of Aughnasheelin who we defeated on a 6-16 to 1-4 scoreline following a sporting contest played in ideal weather conditions in the Philly McGuinness Memorial Park on Saturday evening last with Eamon O’Hara’s charges having held a commanding 3-7-to 0-2 lead at Mark Mc Cluskey's half-time whistle. This was again a fine team effort with everybody playing well on the day, and the likes of top Marksman Keith Beirne, Sean Harkin who played a stormer, Keith Keegan, Shane Quinn, Conor Quinn, Domhnaill Flynn and Evan Harkin catching the eye. our lineout was as follows... Peter O’Neill, Adam McGuinness, James Mitchell, David Mitchell, Evan Harkin, Shane Quinn, Sean Harkin, Domhnaill Flynn, Conor Quinn, Keith Keegan, Jordan Reynolds, Tadhg Mulligan, Fiachra McGuinness, Keith Beirne, Matthew Murphy. Subs. used were Donal Duignan, Eoghan Duignan, Jack Rowley, Senan Curran, Padraig Tighe. Marksmen were K. Beirne 2-8, S. Harkin 2-1, M. Murphy 1-1, T. Mulligan 1-0, D. Flynn 0-2, S. Quinn 0-1, K. keegan 0-1 E. Harken O-1, F. McGuinness 0-1.
